The Poqueira ravine is probably one
of the most impressive parts of Las Alpujarras and the lowest
situated village in the gorge is Pampaneira, followed by
Bubión and Capileira situated above. The distance from Granada or
the Costa Tropical is about 70 km. Pampaneira's neighbour villages
are Bubión, Capileira, La Taha, Órgiva, Carataunas y Soportujar.
Pampaneira presents a particular village
structure and architecture conserving well the typical Moorish way
of building with it's whitewashed houses and flat roofs.
The village is well known for crafts and artwork
from the surrounding counties like carpets, pottery, wooden
crafts and folkloric decoration on canvas. Situated in an ideal
place to practise active holidays by walking, horse riding, mountain
biking or simply to enjoy nature and the mountain views.
Gastronomic variety with dishes, wine, cheese and
the famous Serrano Ham is found in every village and the inns beside
the road. In those villages a cuisine grown to a unique way of
preparing meals is offered at reasonable prices.
